Ominimo car insurance
Ominimo entered the Dutch car insurance market in 2025 as a fully digital insurer. Everything, from taking out a policy to reporting a claim, is handled through the Ominimo Portal. Behind the scenes, Zurich Insurance Group provides the insurance through DA Direkt.
Compare car insuranceAbout Ominimo car insurance
Ominimo has been offering car insurance in the Netherlands since 2025. One of the things that sets this insurer apart is the way premiums are calculated. Alongside traditional rating factors, Ominimo uses AI to assess information such as your licence plate, local traffic conditions and parking environment. Together, these factors are used to determine your premium.
Although Ominimo is still a relatively new name in the Netherlands, every policy is provided by DA Direkt, part of Zurich Insurance Group. That means your insurance comes from one of the world’s largest insurers, with more than 150 years of experience.
You can choose from three levels of cover: third-party liability (WA), third-party liability + limited cover (WA beperkt casco) and third-party liability + comprehensive cover (WA volledig casco / all risk). Both casco options are available in Basic, Comfort and Premium versions, giving you more choice over the level of cover.
Pros and cons of Ominimo car insurance
Here’s a balanced look at what Ominimo does well, and where it falls short compared to some other insurers:
Is Ominimo car insurance available in English?
Ominimo is primarily aimed at the Dutch market, so most of its online services are only available in Dutch. The website, application process and Ominimo Portal are currently not available in English. If you need assistance by phone, English-speaking support is available through Zurich’s customer service for Dutch motor insurance.
Can I manage my policy through an English-language app or portal?
Everything from changing your policy to reporting a claim is managed through the Ominimo Portal. At the moment, the portal is only available in Dutch, and there’s no dedicated Ominimo app for customers in the Netherlands. If you don’t speak Dutch, a translation tool may be enough for everyday tasks, but it’s worth checking the details carefully before making changes to your policy or submitting a claim.
AI as part of your premium
“Using AI to calculate car insurance premiums is still relatively new in the Netherlands. Ominimo is among the insurers using AI as part of the way it calculates what you’ll pay.”

Premiums table 2026
The table below shows Ominimo’s monthly premiums for our standard driver profile. Your own premium may be higher or lower, depending on your personal circumstances.
| Premium* | Type of cover |
|---|---|
| € 28,13 | Third-party liability (WA) |
| € 34,35 | Third-party liability + limited cover (WA beperkt casco) |
| € 65,36 | Third-party liability + comprehensive cover (WA volledig casco / all risk) |
*These monthly premiums are based on car insurance for a Suzuki Jimny (2019) for a 54-year-old driver from Amersfoort. The driver covers 10,000 kilometres per year and has five claim-free years. Latest update: October 2026
Calculate your Ominimo premium
Ominimo uses a different pricing model from many traditional insurers. Alongside factors such as your car and claim-free years, AI is used to assess additional risk-related information. That means the premium you receive may differ more from other insurers in ways you may not expect.

Additional coverage options
Looking for a little more cover? Ominimo offers seven optional extras:
- Breakdown assistance Netherlands (Pechhulp Nederland)
A flat battery, engine trouble or another mechanical or electrical fault doesn’t have to leave you stranded. This cover provides roadside assistance throughout the Netherlands. If your car can’t be repaired on the spot, it’ll be towed to a repair shop. - Breakdown assistance Europe (Pechhulp Europa)
Planning to drive abroad? This extends your breakdown cover to any country listed on your green card (internationaal verzekeringsbewijs). Choose Basic for standard support, or Premium for higher reimbursement limits and extras like a replacement car or repatriation. - Passenger insurance (SVI)
An accident can leave more than just damage to your car. This cover protects both the driver and passengers against injuries, damaged belongings and other financial losses, regardless of who was at fault in the accident. - Motor legal protection (Rechtsbijstand verkeer)
Disputes after an accident, a repair or even the purchase of a car can be difficult to resolve on your own. This add-on gives you access to legal assistance from an independent specialist for covered situations. - Extended new value guarantee
New cars are covered for their full new value for a limited time after theft or a total loss. This add-on extends the new value guarantee by up to 24 months, depending on the cover package you’ve chosen. - Extended purchase value guarantee
If your used car is stolen or declared a total loss, you’ll normally receive its purchase price for 12 months after purchase. This add-on extends the purchase value guarantee to 3 years after purchase, giving you longer protection against depreciation. - Free choice of repair shop
By default, repairs are carried out through Ominimo’s partner network, including Fixico for bodywork and Autoglaz for glass damage. If you’d rather use your own repairer, this option lets you do so without paying the higher excess that would otherwise apply, up to € 500.
Claim-free years at Ominimo
At Ominimo, you build up one claim-free year (schadevrij jaar) for every year you don’t make a claim. The more claim-free years (schadevrije jaren) you have, the higher your no-claims discount (no-claimkorting).
If you do make a claim that can’t be recovered from another party, you’ll usually lose five claim-free years at once.
Second car discount at Ominimo
Insuring more than one car with Ominimo? Then you’ll receive a discount on your premium. The second car scheme applies to the following household members:
- The main policyholder
- A partner living at the same address
- A child living at the same address
The scheme covers up to four vehicles.

Filing a claim with Ominimo
If you need to report damage, you can do so through the Ominimo Portal. It’s best to submit your claim within 48 hours, as this helps Ominimo assess the damage and handle your claim more quickly.
If your car has been stolen, broken into or vandalised, or the damage was caused by an unknown driver, report it to the police as soon as possible. Your insurer may ask for the police report when handling your claim.
Cancelling your Ominimo car insurance
For the Basic and Comfort packages, your policy runs for at least one year. After that, you can cancel at any time with one month’s notice. The Premium package is more flexible, allowing you to cancel from the start without waiting for the first contract year to end.
If you sell your car, you can cancel your policy straight away, regardless of which package you have. You’ll simply need to provide proof of the sale.
