ING car insurance
ING car insurance is provided by Nationale-Nederlanden, one of the Netherlands' largest insurers, in partnership with ING. You manage your policy through the ING app or Mijn ING. While ING's banking services are available in English, most insurance documents and communication are in Dutch. You'll also need an ING bank account to take out this insurance.

ING has been one of the largest financial institutions in the Netherlands since 1991, formed through a merger between Nationale-Nederlanden and NMB Postbank Groep. The company has grown into an international bank known for digital services and a strong online offering.
Car insurance through ING is provided by Nationale-Nederlanden. ING handles the sales and day-to-day management, while Nationale-Nederlanden carries the risk and pays out any claims. Both companies fall under AFM supervision.
Most tasks, from viewing your policy to reporting a claim, run through Mijn ING or the app. Prefer speaking to someone? Phone support is available too.
Pros and cons of ING car insurance
Is ING car insurance available in English?
ING’s day-to-day banking runs in English, and the app supports it too. However, car insurance is a different story: the policy terms, claims process and most correspondence from Nationale-Nederlanden are Dutch only. ING does offer a few English-language webpages with general information about its insurance products, though these don’t cover the full application or claims process.
Do I need a bank account at ING to take out this policy?
Yes, you need an ING bank account before you can apply for ING car insurance. Don’t have one yet? You can open your account through the ING app. If you don’t have a BSN yet, you can provide it later, but you must add your BSN within 90 days.
Everything in one place
“ING car insurance makes sense if you already bank with ING and like keeping things in one place. You manage your policy the same way you manage your other ING products, through the app or Mijn ING, so there’s no separate login or process to learn.”

Premiums ING car insurance 2026
Here’s what ING charged an average driver profile for third-party liability, limited cover and comprehensive cover:
| Premium* | Type of cover |
|---|---|
| € 40,56 | Third-party liability (WA) |
| € 41,26 | Third-party liability + limited cover (WA beperkt casco) |
| € 59,00 | Third-party liability + comprehensive cover (WA volledig casco / all risk) |
*These monthly premiums are based on car insurance for a Suzuki Jimny (2019) for a 54-year-old driver from Amersfoort. The driver covers 10,000 kilometres per year and has five claim-free years. Last updated: 5 August 2026.
Calculate your premium with ING
There’s no fixed price for ING car insurance. It’s worked out individually, based on things like your age, how long you’ve had your licence, the car you drive, how many kilometres you cover each year, where you live, and how many claim-free years you’ve built up so far. Someone with ten years of driving experience and a spotless record pays a different rate than someone just starting out.

Additional coverage options
ING lets you add four extra layers of protection to your car insurance:
- Motor legal protection (Rechtsbijstand): legal support for car-related disputes, such as a garage that won’t stand behind its work, disagreements over who caused an accident, or issues after buying a used car.
- Passenger insurance (Schade Inzittenden): financial protection for the driver and all passengers after an accident, regardless of who is at fault. This includes injuries and damage to personal belongings, up to € 1,000,000 per incident, shared among everyone involved.
- Breakdown assistance Netherlands (Pechhulp Nederland): help if you break down anywhere in the Netherlands, including at home. If the problem can’t be fixed on the spot, the assistance includes a tow to a garage, a replacement car if repairs take longer, and a hotel stay if needed.
- Breakdown assistance Europe (Pechhulp Europa): the same support as Pechhulp Nederland, extended across Europe. Includes on-site help, a tow to a garage, a replacement car for up to 21 days in most cases, and a hotel stay if your journey is interrupted.
Claim-free years and the no-claims bonus ladder at ING
In the Netherlands, your premium depends heavily on your driving history. Every year you don’t claim damage, you earn what’s called a claim-free year. The more of these years you build up over time, the more your premium drops. If you do make a claim, you may lose several claim-free years, which can result in a higher premium.
No-claims bonus ladder at ING
ING uses a system called the no-claims bonus ladder to translate your claim-free years into an actual discount. Think of it as a ladder with 26 steps, running from -5 at the bottom to 20 or more at the top, each step tied to its own discount percentage.
If you’re new to driving in the Netherlands or don’t have any claim-free years yet, you’ll typically start at step 0, not at the very bottom of the ladder. The more claim-free years you build up, the higher you climb, and the bigger your discount gets. If you make a claim that affects your claim-free years, you may move down several steps on the no-claims ladder. This can reduce your discount and increase your premium.
Once you reach 20 claim-free years or more, you’re at the top: ING’s maximum discount of 80%.
Package discount at ING
Unlike some other Dutch insurers, ING doesn’t let you carry your no-claims discount over to a second car. Each additional car builds up its own discount from scratch, the same way your first one did.
Instead, ING offers a flat 5% discount on the premium of every extra car you insure with them, on top of whatever no-claims discount that car earns on its own. This applies to up to 3 cars, and ING calls it the “gezinsautoregeling” (family car scheme) or “partnerregeling” (partner scheme).
Conditions package discount at ING
The table below sets out how ING’s package discount works in more detail:
