Compare car insuranceAbout SEAT car insurance
SEAT car insurance is designed with SEAT owners in mind. One of its key features is the use of original SEAT parts for covered repairs, helping to keep your car in its original condition and preserve your manufacturer’s warranty.
You can choose from three levels of cover: third-party liability (WA), third-party liability + limited cover (WA beperkt casco) and third-party liability + comprehensive cover (WA volledig casco / all risk). Depending on the cover you choose, you can also add optional extras such as breakdown assistance, motor legal protection and replacement transport.
The policy is arranged by Volkswagen Pon Financial Services (VWPFS), with Allianz providing the insurance. Volkswagen Pon Financial Services is supervised by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), while De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) is responsible for the prudential supervision of insurers operating in the Netherlands.
Pros and cons of SEAT car insurance
Every insurer has its strengths and trade-offs. These are some of the main things to consider before choosing SEAT car insurance:
Is SEAT car insurance available in English?
SEAT car insurance is primarily offered in Dutch. The website, application process and policy documents don’t currently have an English-language version. Although some customer service agents may be able to help in English over the phone, this isn’t guaranteed by SEAT.
Do I need to be a Dutch resident to take out this policy?
Yes. You’ll need a Dutch address and a car registered in the Netherlands with a Dutch licence plate. Your postcode is used to calculate your premium, so you’ll normally need to be living in the Netherlands when you apply. If you’ve recently moved here, you can usually take out the policy once your Dutch address and vehicle registration are in place.
Original parts, higher premium
“SEAT car insurance is aimed at owners who value manufacturer-approved repairs. Covered repairs use original SEAT parts through the dealer network, but that extra level of care is reflected in the premium. In many cases, SEAT car insurance is more expensive than a standard policy.”

- your postcode
- your age and driving experience

Additional coverage options
The following optional extras let you tailor your SEAT policy to suit your needs:
- Accessory cover
Factory-fitted equipment is already covered under your policy. If you’ve added accessories yourself, such as upgraded wheels or a multimedia system, these are covered up to € 3,500 as standard. You can increase this limit to € 5,000 if needed. - Extended new value guarantee or purchase value guarantee
If your SEAT is stolen or declared a total loss, these options help protect you against depreciation. New cars come with a one-year new value guarantee, which can be extended to three or five years if you’re the first owner. Used and imported SEATs may qualify for a three-year purchase value guarantee instead, although the compensation gradually decreases for cars between six and nine years old. - Passenger insurance
Damage after an accident isn’t always limited to your car. This cover compensates for injuries, damaged belongings and other financial losses suffered by the driver and passengers, regardless of who caused the accident. Cover is provided up to € 1,000,000 per incident. - Extended motor legal protection
This add-on gives you access to legal assistance for a wide range of traffic-related disputes, including claiming compensation or dealing with contractual issues. - Breakdown assistance Netherlands or Europe
Whether you’re close to home or travelling abroad, help is never far away if your SEAT breaks down. Repairs are carried out on the spot whenever possible. If that isn’t an option, your car is towed to a repair shop, and replacement transport is arranged if repairs take longer than the policy allows.
Claim-free years at SEAT
Claim-free years (schadevrije jaren) are one of the biggest factors affecting the cost of car insurance in the Netherlands. For every insurance year without a claim, you build up one claim-free year.
While your policy is active, your insurer keeps track of your claim-free years internally. At the end of the policy, the final number is registered in Roy-data, the national database shared by Dutch insurers. If you later switch insurers, your new insurer can retrieve your claim-free years automatically and apply the corresponding no-claims discount to your new policy.
The no-claims bonus ladder
Most Dutch insurers use a no-claims bonus ladder (bonus-malusladder) to calculate your no-claims discount. SEAT’s ladder has 20 steps. Drivers without any claim-free years start at step 1, which comes with a 25% premium surcharge. Each claim-free year moves you up a step, increasing your discount. By step 13, you’ll receive a 72.5% discount, while the maximum discount of 80% is reached at step 19.
Second car scheme at SEAT
Already have a SEAT insured with claim-free years? You may be able to apply a similar no-claims discount for a second SEAT, up to a maximum of 75%. The second car must belong to you or your partner and both of you must live at the same address.
Conditions second car scheme at SEAT
The table below sets out the specific conditions of SEAT’s second car scheme:
| Terms | SEAT |
|---|---|
| Type of second car scheme | Nearly full |
| What discount do you receive? | No-claims bonus |
| Maximum discount | 75% |
| Same discount as your first car | No |
| Second driver can build up claim-free years | Yes |
| All cars must be registered to one name | No |
| Cars must be registered at the same address | Yes |
| Policyholder or partner is a regular driver | Yes |
| Children living at home are eligible for the scheme | No |
Additional information: Each car builds up its own claim-free years. That means the discount on the second car isn’t tied to the claim-free years of the first.
